【日英対訳】北原白秋「五十音」(その9)"The sounds of the Japanese syllabary (Part-9)"by Hakushuu KITAHARA

雷鳥(らいちょう)(さむ)かろ
ラ、リ、ル、レ、ロ。
蓮花(れんげ)咲いたら瑠璃(るり)

Wrapped up in the snow, a grouse must feel cold.
RA, RI, RU, RE, RO.
Lotus flowers, lapis lazuli birds.

[Here is the Roma-ji version for typing with Japanese IME]
raichouha samukaro,
ra, ri, ru, re, ro.
renngega saitara, rurino tori.

[NOTE] (1)samukaro 寒かろ can be typed by "samui" 寒い and deleting い, then add "karo"かろ.
(2) 雷鳥 can be translated into English as "a grouse" or "a rock ptarmigan." I chose the first one because I want to make my English translations in a style of "pentameter."
(2) I think that 瑠璃の鳥 probably indicates "birds that have a color of lapis lazuli."
